 Kerala Cuisine - Banana Leaf Rice


Kerala is known as the 'Land of Spices' because it traded spices with Europe as well as with many ancient civilization with the oldest historical records of the Sumerian from 3000 BCE.

Kerala cuisine emphasizes different spices, aromas and colors. Fresh spices of pepper, cardamom, cloves, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, mustard seeds, chilies and curry leaves are just some of the countless of spices used in the food preparation. The dishes are creamy and cooked with a generous amount of grated coconut and santan (coconut milk).
